Pros:

The beach here is just the best - ultra-white & powdery sand - gorgeous! The Village is fun and most residences are within walking or biking distance. Some of the nicest homes in the area are located here.

Cons:

Siesta in general can be a bit crowded and sometimes kind of touristy...

Summary:

Siesta is a can't-miss destination for visitors and a great place for seasonal and year-round residents too.

Pros:

Great, extremely under valued properties and location on the world's best beach, I have lived and sold there for years

Cons:

Older Condo Buildings in prime locations, very few newer buildings in this area, so Buyers must rely on remodeled units in older communities.

Summary:

No Better place in Southwest Florida than Siesta Key. www.kelleypropertygroup.com

Pros:

The beach and the water are gorgeous. No one can deny that.

Cons:

It is way too crowded and dense. There is a mish mosh of unsavory characters on the beach at times.

Summary:

I like Siesta Key beach because of the beauty but it is way too crowded. There are just too many people. The noise is not soothing. The traffic and parking are enough to make you not want to go. I couldn't imagine living there. For these reasons we decided to buy on Longboat Key.

Pros:

-Powder White Sand -Fantastic Fireworks show from the beach on 4th of July -Gorgeous Sunsets -Great village center -Olaf's Ice Cream in the village center -Happy Hour in the village -Excellent boating -Whether renting or buying there are endless housing options from large luxury homes to 1 bedroom condos, there's plenty to choose from.

Cons:

If you're only going for the day, parking can be difficult, but if you get there early, usually before about 9am, you should be able to find a spot. Another great option is to go a little later in the day and watch a gorgeous sunset. The parking lot has usually started to clear out by 3 or 4pm. Of course the best option is to just stay on the Key and you won't have to bother with the public parking lot.

Summary:

As Tampa residents Siesta Key is absolutely our favorite getaway spot! We've spent 10 of the last 15 years on Siesta Key during the July 4th week, plus dozens of weekend trips. Second only to enjoying the great beach, one of our favorite things to do is rent a boat from CB Outfitters and spend the day cruising the inter-coastal. We usually stay at the Palm Bay Club in one of the Tower units because the beach is literally right at your door step, but we've also rented a number canal front homes within walking distance of the beach which is great option if you're bringing/renting a boat.

Pros:

Absolutely one of the best beaches in the world. You walk on velvet sand, beautiful and breathtaking sunsets, simply an amazing beach. Best in US. Volleyball, beach sports, concessions...Siesta Key has it all. A must see / visit place.

Cons:

Parking can be tough, but worth it.

Summary:

Go, enjoy, take sunscreen. A fabulous experience.

Siesta Key History

People began settling on Siesta Key in the late 1800's. Back then the island was referred to as "Sarasota Key." Captain Louis Roberts and his wife, Ocean Hansen Roberts came to Siesta Key and established their claim. Do their names look familiar? Ocean Boulevard, Roberts Road and Hansen Bayou were named after the couple. In 1906, Captain Roberts enlarged his home and turned it into Roberts Hotel. In 1902 Captain Robert, Harry Higel and E.M. Arbogast formed the Siesta Land Company. By 1946, Siesta Key was still labeled “Sarasota Key” on government maps, but was called Siesta Key by the County.

Harry Higel, for who Higel Avenue is named after, was responsible for many of the canals on Siesta Key. In 1910 Higel was busy dredging canals, filling in low lying areas and excavating shell deposits that could be used to surface the roads as they were built. The canal that leads from Hansen Bayou westward was dug for its shell deposits.

In 1916 Harry Higel was mayor of Sarasota and supported a bond issue that was passed and resulted in the building of the first Siesta Key Bridge in 1917. The second bridge on Stickney Point Road was built by the County in 1926. They platted the subdivision of Siesta on the northern end of the Key.

The Siesta Key Association was founded on November 12, 1948, as a community group which was dedicated to maintaining Siesta Key as an attractive residential area. The association has been the driving force behind many improvements to Siesta Key.
