Lido Key Sarasota

lido key sarasota

Situated in the Sarasota, Florida area, close to the fabulous shopping of St. Armand's Circle, Lido Key real estate gives access to stunning beaches, amazing dining and world-class shopping, the culture and arts of Sarasota and the beauty of living right beside the Gulf of Mexico.

Previously home to the Calusa and Paleo Indians, Lido Key was named by John Ringling after the word "beach" in Italian. The island's recent history dates back to the nineteenth century, when Otto Schmidt Zoldan settled the area; in 1910 he acquired it under the Homestead Act. When Ringling bought the properties in the 1920s, he shifted and manipulated the geography of the islands by moving sand to reshape them. In the 1940s, a casino was built, and the area became popular as musicians and celebrities enjoyed the Lido Beach Casino. It was destroyed in the 1960s, after its popularity had decreased, and new construction was planned.

Connected to the mainland by John Ringling Causeway, Lido Key lies off the coast and is an island. Hotels and beach houses can be found; vacation rentals are very popular here. The pristine beach draws travelers from around the world; white sand distinguishes the beauty of its shores. Activities such as deep sea fishing, sailing and dolphin watching cruises all are part of the Lido Key experience.

Eco-tourism plays a big part in bringing travelers to the area as well as providing residents with access to the beauty and wildlife found in the area. Kayaking the South Lido mangrove tunnels is the way to explore the natural beauty of the southern part of the island. South Lido County Park, at the tip of Lido Key, offers fabulous views of the skyline of downtown Sarasota. Big Pass, Sarasota Bay, Brushy Bay and The Gulf can all be accessed from South Lido Key and paddled or viewed. Australian pines make the South Lido Park unique and ideal for walking and picnicking as well.

One can find properties in Lido Key that include luxury condominiums and waterfront homes. Beach or bay front homes give majestic views and romantic sunsets or splendid sunrises. With St. Armands Circle so close to Lido Key, world-class shopping and a diverse selection of fine dining are right at the door.
