Sitting peacefully in Sarasota is the highly sought after community of Cherokee Park. This lovely neighborhood is located West of the Trail and just south of downtown Sarasota. Residents of Cherokee Park can be shopping at Saks, enjoying a drink on St. Armands Circle, watching a play at Asolo theatre, playing a round of golf on Palmer Ranch, walking in the sands of Siesta Key beach, or boating with the family within minutes from their home. Residents are made up of doctors, lawyers, young professionals, families and retirees.
There are a wide variety of homes in Cherokee Park. You can find an old Florida ranch style home, a Mc Mansion and everything in between. Because of land values most of the homes haves been remodeled or rebuilt. The most expensive home to sell in Cherokee Park was 1500 South Drive and it sold for $6,600,000 in January of 2007.
This small, serene, Sarasota community boasts a diversity of architectural design styles, ranging from the boom time revival period to a post World War II modern theme. The impressive Florida mansions built here in the 50’s and 60’s on this community’s palm-lined roads adds a feeling like you have been sent back in time to the growth years in Sarasota after the Second World War.
Originally designed in 1926, the subdivision is separated from Osprey Avenue by a stucco wall and gate posts with impressive artistic tile work depicting a beautiful Cherokee rose. The developer, J.C. Brown, had a vision for Cherokee Park - creating a neighborhood filled with homes designed in Italian, Spanish or Moorish styles of architecture. Sadly, Brown’s dreamscape never fully developed due to the magnitude of the real estate bust of the late 1920’s. In 1937 only 3 homes were fully built in the community.
